| Brianna | Handmaiden | Relationships |
| Species: Echani Age: 21 standard years Hair: White Eyes: Blue Affiliation: Jedi Timeline: Post-game Brianna was once an Echani warrior in the service of the Jedi Master Atris. The bastard daughter of Echani General Yusanis and Jedi Knight Arren Kae, Brianna was ostracized and scorned by her sisters as a living mark of her father's dishonor. Though she worked and fought hard to prove herself worthy, they still labeled her as "the last" in rank among them and criticized her drive to prove herself as "too passionate." Though Brianna felt the shame of being an illegitimate child, she was not mistreated by her father. He even left her the quarterstaff that he himself wielded after he was killed by Revan. Brianna also possessed the Jedi robes that her mother had worn, and counted them as among her most precious belongings. When Yusanis' daughters entered the service of Atris, Brianna forsook her birth name, choosing to call herself Handmaiden until she had proven herself. When the Jedi Exile came to the secluded ice academy that was Atris' home after the Jedi Civil War, Brianna spoke to her about battle, the Force, and the Jedi. Ordered by Atris to keep an eye on the Exile, Brianna accompanied her and her companions on her journey to gather the remaining Jedi Masters. As she grew to know and trust the Exile, Brianna doubted Atris' words more and more, and eventually broke her oath to never be trained in the ways of the Jedi. Although she had wished to prove to her sisters that she did not carry the shame of her father's disloyalty, she grew to feel as though the Exile understood the Galaxy in ways that Atris could not, and wished to fight alongside her against all enemies. She followed the path of the Jedi Guardians, melee warriors who focus on protecting others in battle. On the journey, Brianna remained largely secluded from her crewmates, preferring to seek solitude and train in the cargo bay during the long stretches of hyperspace travel. She clashed with Atton Rand many times, irritated by his obnoxious and sarcastic attitude, and was very mistrustful of Visas Marr, a Sith servant who defected after the Exile defeated her in battle. Still, Brianna did have friendly conversations with the former bounty hunter Mira, and was admirative of Bao-Dur's talent with engineering. Eventually, the journey brought Brianna back to Atris' academy on Telos, where she discovered that Atris had lied to her sisters to turn them against her. Brianna was able to defeat them all and then confronted Atris. Although they dueled, Brianna's fledgling Jedi skills were no match for a Master's, and Atris soon overwhelmed her with a brutal and dark attack of Force Lightning. The Exile--believed dead--arrived and confronted Atris, defeating her and turning her away from the dark path. At that moment, Brianna claimed her name back and vowed to follow the Exile and stand with her against all threats. However, it was not to be. The Exile departed for the Unknown Regions to fight a greater threat to the Galaxy, but tasked Brianna and the other Lost Jedi she had found to rebuild the Jedi Order. Eventually, Brianna would become less a driven warrior and take up the role of Jedi Historian. Brianna is also an avid admirer of Echani poetry and greatly enjoys the work of the masters. Her favorite poem is a nameless ode to personal shields, the author of which has been forgotten. |
Birthdate: June 23rd Occupation: Paper press, Guard Residence: Section 2 Roomate: None Born into Edensphere on July 23rd, Handmaiden named herself for something that she heard herself called in her dream. Unnerved and disheartened by the loss of everything she knew, she nonetheless pushed forward, trying to follow her instincts in order to determine what sort of person she was. She soon realized that she was a warrior, and felt a need both to learn as much as she could and to protect people. She has since joined the Guard, and has begun to keep a private record of the events that transpire in the Sphere. Though knowing from others the dangers of seeking knowledge in Edensphere, Handmaiden is nonetheless determined as much about it--and herself--as she can. She finds the loss of her name to be particularly distressing. Handmaiden has discovered that she can sense the ebb and flow of the Force, although she does not know its name or how much she can manipulate it as yet. Its effects are most noticeable in battle, where she finds it gives her a considerable edge in reading her opponent (something she is already skilled at). She also sensed a great disturbance when Bastet and Snap died, and unknowingly used the technique of Force Speed when rushing to the scene. When she traveled to the Wax Museum Wilderness with Victory, Handmaiden saw the figures of Atris and her five sisters. The sight of them provoked conflicting feelings in her, of fear, inferiority, anger, hurt, and confusion. She remembers Atris--known to her only as the mistress currently--accusing her of betrayal and inflicting great pain on her, but does not know why she would do so. In the Scavenger's Yard, she discovered the fragmented segments of a retractable quarterstaff and reassembled it. Although she knows it is her own personal weapon, she does not yet know that it was the quarterstaff that was given to her by her father Yusanis. She now carries it with her daily. During the invasion of belligerent schooldesks, Handmaiden went to the aid of Medium to fight them off, and used the Force Whirlwind technique to defeat them. Dream Memory 1 - Echani Poetry |
Will (Simon Tam) - A doctor working at Medical. Handmaiden felt drawn to him, as he reminded her initially of Mical, another Jedi who had traveled with the Exile. His desire to reunite with his sister confuses and saddens her in a way she does not understand, although she admires it. She is teaching him the Echani principles of self-defense. Victory (Ayla) - A warrior who challenged Handmaiden to a fight over the journals. Handmaiden found her love of battle refreshing and something of a relief, as she had felt her predisposition towards battle set her outside of most people in Edensphere since her arrival. Later, the two of them traveled to the Wilderness when it was a wax museum, where both of them saw figures from their past. Handmaiden likes Victory a great deal and trusts her, finding to be a true warrior and exciting fighter. Paper (Yomiko Readman) - A bookworm with a strange power over paper. Handmaiden met Paper shortly after the young woman arrived, and realized that there was a different way she could view the journals--although they still unsettle her, they do so less than when she first arrived. Handmaiden has sparred with her, during which Paper rediscovered her power. Although she does not have a typical fighter's personality, Handmaiden enjoys her company and trusted her enough to discuss a poem from her memory with her. Blood (Yachiru Kusajishi) - A young child who is nevertheless a fighter. Handmaiden has sparred with Blood, and finds the child both amusing and endearing. Privately she worries over the child's safety in the Sphere, but knows that there are many who look after her. She finds Blood's optimism and enthusiasm for life to be refreshing in the bizarre and sometimes dark setting of Edensphere. West (Elphaba) - A young woman working at the bookstore. Handmaiden believes West to be a near-Human with green skin, and found in her a desire for knowledge and learning that was similar to her own. She learned from West the dangers of seeking too avidly to learn about Edensphere, and on her advice has begun to keep her own private journal recording its history since her arrival. Stoneface (Sam Vimes) - The second-in-command of the Guard. Handmaiden met with him after he announced open Guard positions. She finds him an unusual combination of opposing traits--although he is dedicated to keeping order, his fighting style is chaotic and unpredictable, and after Bastet and Snap's deaths she could feel the deep anger that he was restraining despite an outward appearance of tightly-coiled calm. Still, she believes that he is a trustworthy man, and finds him to be a very good sparring partner. Juliet (Grell Sutcliffe) - An odd man who dresses like a female. First meeting him in the Marketplace, Handmaiden took him to be a type of near-Human like herself, but learned the truth when witnessing a vivid and disturbing memory of his on the Fourth Floor. Although initially angered at seeing the murder he had committed, Juliet later discussed the memory and his confusion and guilt with her. Handmaiden accepted that he felt true remorse and confusion over what they had seen and promised to keep an eye on him, should he start turning towards darkness again. Forge (Iorek) - The panserbjorn blacksmith living on the frozen island. Handmaiden purchased a light breastplate from him, and is most impressed with his considerable skill in metalworking. |
